Outstanding communication & competence

My aging mother dealt with Ian Rodger at this firm on a number of matters. In some cases I was directly involved, in others my mum would provide me updates where I wasn't. For those that I received communications directly from Ian, I found them clear, timely and informative. For those where I wasn't directly involved, and would get copies from my mum, I similarly found them easy to understand. In all cases the communication was proactive, instructions were abundantly clear, and I wasn't left wondering what we were waiting for, or possible eventualities that may create delays.

In my experience with with Lawyers (in Canada), the norm is to be left completely in the dark as the matter unfolds. One is left making unendingly querying the lawyer for updates, only to be met with silence and added costs when they finally provide a response, questions that would have never arisen had they communicated as Ian did.

The matters we dealt with involved completing and signing various documents, transmitted by email. As with all things legal, the completion of these forms had fastidious requirements (ex ALL CAPS, black ink, etc) and Ian provided very clear detailed instructions on how to complete these forms and in the spirit of the above comments above, would inform us if they were done correctly (or not ) immediately after we had returned them. The updates were written in plain English and where legal jargon was included it was clear in context, or otherwise explained so

For all matters I got the impression (as I'm not lawyer) that Ian had a very sound understanding of the surrounding law, and competent. I had no concerns, or hints, that these matters were being treated as simply a unit of production for the law firm i.e. to clear a file off the desk as quickly as possible, at the expense of the client's interests. Again I'm comparing Ian's service with that from typical experiences I have had where I got the opposite impression.

I can't speak to things like costs, as my mum paid for this, and wouldn't know if it is comparably higher/lower than expected. I can say she is Scots and didn't complain about it, so perhaps you can use that as a gauge. Regardless, I would venture it was good value for the money, and have no concerns.

I will presume Ian is representative of the service one would receive at Williamson & Henry LLP, and therefore recommend this firm.
