We had a dispute over a border with our neighbours. Birkett Long took the case but it was passed to several staff, the communication with the person handling the case was extremely poor, they were not well informed of the facts and were poorly prepared, they were almost impossible to get a hold of, the final resolution was delayed and things are still not completely resolved because of the delays experienced. It was an extremely negetive experience. Eventually we made a formal complaint and finally a more professional person took over and actually responded to us and we were able to finalise the case.

I thought the solicitor was responsive and quick to act. she explained things well. However, I was concerned that the initial letter to my employer was not run past me for tone and contents. There were a couple of errors in the letter which I would have corrected and in addition, I would not have allowed it to take such a confrontational tone. I believe that both the tone of the letter and inaccuracies put my employer into a defensive position resulting in me not getting the payout which was being asked for. I believe it also caused me considerable anxiety in the process. I would have expected much better negotiating skills and techniques.

I have been dealing with Birkett Long for eleven years since the passing of my Mum. BL held my Mum's will and were helpful and courteous in passing the Will to us, her family. Their efficiency and compassion steered me towards using Birkett Long when making my own original and revised Wills. For my latest Will, I have dealt with Natalie who is extremely knowledgeable and has produced my latest Will within a very reasonable amount of time. Natalie explains everything very clearly, is very easy to approach with any queries/questions and always replies in a prompt and efficient manner. We have used Alison Bear at Birkett Long for all of our conveyancing and have always been extremely happy with her work. In our most recent sale / purchase which was at no point straight forward she was nothing short of brilliant, she kept us updated, responded to various third parties extremely quickly at what must have been an incredibly busy time for solicitors with the stamp duty holiday deadline. A few months ago I was contacted by Birkett Long asking me if I wished to review our joint wills. I put it off, hoping we could have a normal Christmas first. That didn't happen! I then went back to them and was invited to talk to David Feakins, a solicitor in the practice. As instructed by Boris the office was closed but David made all the arrangements to have Microsoft Teams meeting for my wife and I.
I think we all worry about how much it will cost to go to law but David made it quite clear up front how much the various options would cost and the fact that he wasn't charging by the minute for his time on line.
We now have two wills which I think will give the best deal for our beneficiaries and hopefully avoid swallowing up the whole estate in care home costs.
Incidentally he also gave me some free advice about LPAs which will save me a few bob!
