Slow, uncommunicative and awful aftercare
I write this review 2 months after the sale has completed. I am doing so as frustrated at the service received from Hatten Wyatt even now as the after care is driving my anxiety sky high. I approached the local branch in my town, only to be allocated a solicitor for the same company 35 miles away in a different town. After a few weeks, this solicitor left and my purchase got reallocated to another solicitor, this time only 10 miles away but still not in my local branch. Despite numerous emails, phone calls, chasers from me, there was never a timely response at any stage with anyone I dealt with at any branch. Also there was never an email or call to me without me trying to instigate it first.
Half of the time I waited, was spent by the conveyancer asking questions to our seller for which we already had answers and were fully aware of ongoing leasehold costs etc. We sat down at the point of signing documents going through everything which was the first personal touch we had in the final week of completion. Only that didn't go smoothly, the signed paperwork we completed then had to be done again a few days later, all for the sake of it being rebound with a single blue paper triangle on the corner of the package. Nothing changed in what we had signed it was literally the same document, same information and same spelling mistakes, just my partner and I had to travel 20 miles round trip to sign a contract with a blue stapled on piece of paper. Madness spending all that time, fuel and money just for that!!
Further to this, we completed on 16/06/2025 but I then receive chasers from HMRC for a delayed SDLT document submitted, now incurring a £100 fee. I call and chase Hatten Wyatt to ensure they're paying for their error, get a confirmation that yes they are. Unfortunately it still hasn't been paid several weeks later, I chase again and get a brush off response on 04/08/2025 that they will speak to accounts to verify, but nothing has happened and no answer. Its now 15/08/2025 and HMRC are starting recovery proceedings as I haven't paid a debt for this solicitors error in a delayed submission to HMRC.
Awful communication, complete lack of accountability and customer care, if anyone dare use them be prepared for a long drawn out process and be blind to what is happening guessing and wishing and hoping for the next response in however many weeks it may be.
