Superb Service when buying my new home

Brethertons were marvelous, the purchase of my new home went so smoothly because of the competence of this company. They were efficient, friendly and so very helpful throughout. I can't thank them enough. All of the staff that I dealt with were top class.

did not do as paid to. very poor service, lacking in compassion, concerned only about profit

Brethertons took my fee, refused to advise about merit of my case, used documents I produced myself- 'or it would have cost me more.' Did not consult my barrister about the case or assess the case themselves initially, so advised me that settlement was likely. Barrister got around to assessing the claim, advised too much missing information- settlement not likely. Meanwhile Brethertons charged me fees for preparing a case for a settlement which would not take place. Also allowed me to instruct the barrister myself so that she was asking me complex legal questions I had no way to answer. I wanted to settle, the barrister said it was not possible- said I was 'agitated' or some such description. Solicitor justified this by saying time was short and I was going to advise the barrister myself by public access anyway. Fuming mad, disappointed. Would have done my paperwork and instructed the barrister myself rather than pay 2 500 so I could do it myself. Their manner lacks compassion, understanding and they are unconscionable. Go elsewhere

I can only reiterate my comments above; areas for improvement: Explain matters upfront including a walk-through of the welcome pack. Explain projection of costs better. Be available for phone calls. Improve response time generally. Be as good as the competition. Make me feel like a client not one of 50+ cases that you've probably got ongoing at any one time.

Be very very careful with this company - ZERO TRANSPARENCY

Be very very careful with this company. Look at the way the charge and make sure everything is clear.

In my case, before I even signed the contract with them they had charged me £250 which I didn't find out until later. The secretary called me to let me know that the contract had been sent and they also charged me for that call at £23.

Unless you are sure what you want, don't use this company to give you any initial advice as they don't have transparency on the way they charge customers and you will find yourself with a very big bill on top of the stress you are already going through.

Purchase of Property

Used Brethertons for the sale/purchase of my last property and it went swimingly, so decided to use them again. What a mistake, paperwork not done, no informatio, spent most of my time doing the work for them by making phone calls and sorting out details. Never given an update and in the end almost lost the new property. The woman selling it never got any of the questions raised and was in tears when we turned up to measure for curtains.

All in all terrible experaince, if you are planning to use them expect the minium effort from them and the maximum stress for you.

FLAGGED REVIEW

Received an email from Trust Pilot to say my review of this firm was being taken down as apparently Brethertons do not like hearing truthful feedback. My late father put me as a Trustee in his Will and to be treated exactly the same way as the other Trustees but Probate Team immediately decided to ostracise myself from fulfilling this role on they said other family members orders. They all received his Will months before I did and that was only after I informed the Police who also said was suspicious. In fact I knew nothing about a Will as my mother told me my father hadn't made one when I questioned why she was cremating a staunt Catholic. Suspicious even then as my father always talked about what kind of send of he wanted since I was small and for him not to make a Will - just wasn't him not to have done. I was given no paperwork that the others received telling me I was to be limited with what I received. Lies told about a legal document that was required to market his house requiring my signature- saying they were in receipt of it when it didn't even exist. I was then instantly blocked from all communication when I questioned why I was being treated differently and like I didn't exist and the last 5 months have received not one piece of legal vital paperwork when the other Trustees have received virtually books of papers. Was told to seek my own solicitor too right from the word go as wasn't acting for me - just the other Trustees- not what my father asked to be done to single me out. When I did - they refused to give me a copy of the Will preventing the solicitor acting for me. Between them and the Estate agent selling my father's house - i have been totally excluded from any dealings with the selling stating was none of my business. The role of Trustee is to make sure all house sale is going through legally and no wrong doing being done but they made sure I couldn't fulfill my role in doing this. Them and other family members who have history of wrong doing when comes to financial affairs and one reason why my father appointed me as a Trustee. I refused to sign my name to the selling of the house so my signature was forged and with other legal documentation same done and then despite numerous phone calls and emails saying I wasn't signing - claimed hadnt received my reply and carried on as if I didn't exist. Extremely rude and patronising throughout. Claimed I watched too many crime documentaries when I questioned illegal wrong doing. My career has been based around the top police in the world and the Courts for many years so no not watching too many crime documentaries Patience! Just cannot abide wrong doing in any way and when I see it - yes I will speak out. The house was sold too months before it was actually advertised as sold as estate agent and solicitor were still advertising it as available deceiving potential buyers and the public. I was told by a source it was to throw me off the trail and to get all the paperwork drawn up and signed and sealed and not one thing i can do about it. That not suspicious?? House was sold too with property belonging to myself that despite me giving both the solicitor and my mother list of the items 3 times each - was ignored. Want them back please. All of it as sentimental to me in regards to my father. So more to all of this and what they have done is just criminal. This review will no doubt be taken down like the others but I just want to warn others to beware and do not be afraid to speak out. This is all going to Court anyway as this involves a lot of money that should have gone straight back into the Trust fund months ago yet not one penny to date has gone into it. Your guess is as good as mine where it's gone. Also when I did receive the Will - 2 pages I received out of 12! Kept the rest of it from me

Tread carefully as I got overcharged - by almost £1500 !

Appalling company that has just admitted to me IN WRITING ('Strictly the matter should not have been progressed' and 'I apologise that the situation developed') they not only didn't carry out proper Anti Money Laundering checks but also sought to overcharge my company by almost £1500 to boot. Were a good firm of solicitors once. Now ? Avoid. Avoid. Avoid. As others have noted, seem to be simply interested in what fees can be charged.

Serious Concerns Regarding Pricing Transparency

A few years ago, I engaged the services of Dominic Wisdom. During our collaboration, there were some challenges regarding the clarity of costs. Initially, I paid £500 as an advance payment, with the understanding, based on Dominic’s assurances, that I would be notified before reaching this amount.

Unexpectedly, I received an additional invoice for £1,787.00. This was without any prior indication that the initial budget of £500, which I had set for the specific consultation, was being exceeded.
