We recently used Scullion Law for the purchase of our first home. While the process was ultimately completed, our experience was mixed, with some standout positives but also areas where we feel the service could be improved.
First, I want to highlight the excellent support we received from the Conveyancing Clerk Mandy Terras. She was consistently quick to respond, and approachable. We especially appreciated her phone calls to keep us updated, which felt personal and reassuring. Even when our early offers fell through, she remained understanding and supportive. She really stood out as a credit to the firm.
However, once the case moved to the solicitor, our experience became more challenging. Communication felt much less frequent and, at times, unclear. As first-time buyers, we often felt like we didn’t fully understand what was happening or what to expect, and we would have appreciated more guidance and proactive updates. There were moments when important information came as a surprise, which made the final stages, particularly the lead-up to the move, far more stressful than it needed to be.
There were also some small but frustrating issues, such as repeated typos (including in our names) and missed email CCs, which made it harder for both of us to stay in the loop. Additionally, contacting my elderly grandparents via email without notifying me caused confusion and stress that could have been avoided with a simple phone call.
We do appreciate that such sales can be complex and involve many moving parts, but clearer communication and a more supportive approach would have made a big difference to our overall experience. While Conor was polite and professional, his heavy use of legal jargon, and noncommittal answers to our queries, made things harder to follow and left us feeling uncertain at key moments.
In summary, while we’re grateful for the successful completion of our purchase and for the excellent service from Mandy, we felt let down by the lack of clarity and guidance from the solicitor. Unfortunately, we wouldn’t choose Scullion Law again based on this experience, but we hope this feedback is helpful for improving your service for future clients.
